Bodywork FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What to expect during a session:
  • Each session begins with an interview to asses the clients needs and intentions for the work. Then the client will be given private space to undress (typically fully, but only to your comfort level) and will move to the massage table where they will be fully covered at all times by a sheet. The majority of the session is then, hands-on massage therapy tailored to the client’s needs with layers of sound therapy and emotional / energetic / spiritual work woven throughout. The session concludes with a big glass of spring water and any instructions for follow-up at home.

Is this a massage? Or is it energy work and sound healing?
  • It’s all of the above! Poranguí is a Licensed Massage Therapist, and his sessions are “hands-on” like a traditional massage. He also incorporates elements of sound healing and energy work throughout the session.

What style / techniques of massage therapy are used?
  • With a wide variety of tools and techniques, Poranguí is able to tailor the sessions to the specific needs of each client. His technique called "Myorhythmic Release" combines the healing properties of sound, movement and breath as integral parts of our physical, emotional and energetic well-being.
  • The physical (and emotional) work is generally deep and therapeutic in nature, and may include myofascial therapy, trigger-point, cranio-sacral integration, reflexology, Thai bodywork, traditional Chineese medicine, and others.

Can this type of work help me if… << insert various conditions >>
  • Feel free to ask us about your specific situation, and in many cases it may be difficult to give specific feedback before meeting in person. Generally, this work has helped a wide range of people feel dramatically better as they are leaving than the way they arrived, and clients give rave reviews.

Will just one session yield long-lasting results?
  • One session can (and typically does) definitely yield significant results, and with the right follow-up, these can be long-lasting. Multiple sessions do amplify the results, and can help to get through more layers of releasing over time. The healing process is always on-going!

Should I arrive early for my session?
  • Please arrive on time, and no more than 5 minutes early for your session. Poranguí has a full schedule of clients and other work, and needs the full amount of time to transition between appointments.

What can I do to prepare for my session?
  • Make sure to be well hydrated, especially during your travels and stay in Sedona if you are visiting (high altitude and dry climate). Refrain from caffeine as much as possible the morning of your session, especially coffee. If you are someone who drinks coffee regularly, substitute green tea for the morning.
  • The more alkaline diet you can eat, the better. This means “clean” healthy food, heavy on the veggies, light on the meat and carbs. It also helps to avoid alcohol the 24 hours before your session (or the longer, the better).

What should I wear to my session?
  • Just be comfortable! After an interview, clients will have private space to undress and move to the massage table, where they will be covered at all times with a sheet. If you feel more comfortable leaving on your underwear, you are welcome to.
  • Sometimes, a portion of the therapeutic work will happen with your clothes on, so you will want to be able to stretch and move freely.
  • You will be asked to remove all your jewelry. If you have rings or toe rings that are tight fitting and stubborn to remove, it is best to remove them before arrival.
  • If you are coming straight from a hike, please leave time to shower off at your accommodations before your session.

Where do the sessions take place?
  • Most sessions take place in Poranguí’s private healing studio at his home in Sedona, AZ. His wife, Ashley, is often home as well, but the session space is completely private. You will be given the address upon booking.
  • If you’re looking to stay somewhere close to the sessions, stay in West Sedona. Uptown is the next closest neighborhood. Oak Creek Canyon and Village of Oak Creek are further, but still only 20-30 minutes away (although often longer with traffic in busy seasons).

What else do you recommend we do while visiting Sedona?
  • Clean, healthy eats: ChocolaTree Cafe, Local Juicery, Paleo Brio, Picazzo’s
  • Favorite Hikes - there are SO many, and you can’t go wrong, seriously… Cathedral Rock, Airport Mesa Loop, Boynton Canyon, Red Rock Crossing, and West Fork are just a few
  • Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park
  • Grace Grove Retreat Center - for a full cleansing retreat experience
  • Other practitioners - Anahata Ananda of Shamangelic Healing for counseling, breath work, land journeys, etc
  • Yoga - 7 Centers Yoga, Sedona Hot Yoga, AumBase Yoga
